A coin show is a room (or arena) full of dealer tables — sometimes dozens, sometimes hundreds. Clubs and promoters run them on weekends across the U.S. Use NumisQ Shows or CoinShows.us to find one near you.
Before you go
- Decide a budget and stick to it — impulse buys are common.
- Bring cash and a card; some dealers prefer cash for small items.
- Write down two or three things you are hunting for (not “anything shiny”).
- Eat beforehand; good shows take hours.
At the door
Many shows charge a small admission; some are free. You will get a map or aisle layout at larger events. Walk the entire floor once before you buy — prices and quality vary table to table.
Talking to dealers
Dealers expect questions. It is fine to say you are new. Ask why a coin is priced where it is, whether it is raw or details, and if they offer a return policy on higher-ticket items. Compare multiple tables on the same type before you commit.
After the show
Store purchases in flips or tubes, label what you bought and what you paid, and note which dealer you liked for next time. Shows are as much about relationships as inventory.
