What a Mexico Libertad is
The Libertad is Mexico’s bullion coin, gold and silver. Modern pieces often have no face value. Shops treat them as recognized metal. Some years leave bullion and become collector coins.
The Libertad is the Mexican Mint’s bullion coin. Silver and gold. Many sizes, from tiny fractionals to large pieces.
The odd part
Modern Libertads often have no face value. They are still official mint products. They just are not “one peso” the way an Eagle says one dollar. In a US shop they are metal plus recognition. Legal tender is a national-law question. The pad is a scale question.
How shops treat them
Better than generic rounds. Usually behind Eagles and Maples on the bid. Proofs and early dates can leave bullion. Older Onza ounces are cousins, not the same listing.
Do not mix a Libertad pile with tourist jewelry and expect one number. European and Mexican silver. Government vs generic. Panda.
If you have a tube of common silver Libertads, we count ounces and look at condition. If you have a single early proof, say so before it goes in the junk pile.
