What a shop does if you walk in with a huge bar
We do not drill it on the sidewalk. We look at the stamp, the serial, the weight, and whether the size matches the story. Tungsten is why fat unmarked bricks get a harder look. Call ahead. A 400-ounce object is not a Saturday impulse buy for either of us.
If the bar is a normal 10 oz name we know, we treat it as retail bullion. What .999 fine guarantees is purity claimed, not “London will take this.” If you inherited something that looks like a doorstop, say you do not know. We would rather test than hear a vault story that does not fit the object.
