You can walk away from a bid. The metal is still yours.
A bid is an offer, not a verdict. Take it home. Think. Get another number. Spot will move. That is allowed.
Some people think once a number is spoken, they have to take it or they have insulted the shop.
No. We insult each other all day with numbers. That is the job.
What a bid is
“I will pay you this, now, for this exact stuff.” It expires when spot moves, when you leave the coins on the table overnight, or when they said it expires. Ask.
It is not an appraisal. Appraisal vs cash bid.
What walking away looks like
You say “I need to think.” They put it back in your bag. You leave. You do not owe a speech.
If they get weird about letting you leave with your own metal, that is your cue. Same as a hotel buyer who wants to “hold it.” Traveling buyers.
Getting a second number
Same week. Same stuff. Do not clean it in between. Second opinion. A $20 hunt on a $400 lot is silly. A second bid on a five-figure estate is how adults do it.
If you come back tomorrow
Spot moved. The bid can move. That is not bait-and-switch by default. That is the product. Should you sell when TV numbers are huge.
If they quoted you in writing “good through Friday” then they should honor Friday.
