Get a second opinion the same week — without turning it into a war
Two bids is not disloyal. Playing shops against each other with fake numbers is. Bring the same metal. Tell the truth.
A second bid is how you find out if the first number was the market or a mood.
It is not a betrayal. Shops do it to each other wholesale every day.
How to do it clean
- Same metal, same condition, same week
- Do not “fix” the coins in between
- Do not tell shop B a fantasy number from shop A if shop A did not actually bid it
- If shop A was close and decent, you can still sell to shop A. Winning a $12 war after three hours is not a personality.
Common eagles should be close. Weird estates will not be. Pawn vs coin shop will not be.
When one more bid is enough
Two good shops. If they are within the noise, pick the one you trust. If they are miles apart, ask both to show the math — karat, weight, factor, face value. Weigh and test.
A third shop is for five-figure piles, not a class ring.
What not to do
Do not live-stream the counter. Do not bring a printed “I was offered more” from a buyer who is already on the highway. Traveling buyers.
