Silver Eagle milk spots: ugly, common, still an ounce
White cloudy spots on American Silver Eagles drive collectors nuts. Most shops still buy them as eagles. Do not polish them off.
Milk spots are cloudy white patches on Silver Eagles. They show up in tubes, monster boxes, and perfectly stored coins. Nobody at this counter invented them. The mint and chemistry get the credit.
Does it kill the bid?
On a common bullion eagle, usually no. It is still a recognized ounce. A picky collector might pass. A shop buying bullion will usually still buy bullion.
If you were trying to sell a “perfect” high-grade eagle, spots matter more. That is a grading problem, not a melt problem. When to slab.
Do not clean them
You will turn a spot into hairlines. Don’t clean.
