What a China Panda gold or silver coin is
China’s Panda is official bullion with a design that usually changes every year. “I have a Panda” is not enough. A shop needs the year, the metal, and the size.
The Panda is a Chinese official bullion coin. Gold and silver. Several sizes. The design usually changes every year, which is the opposite of an Eagle.
Why the year matters
An Eagle is mostly an ounce. A Panda is an ounce plus a date that collectors may or may not care about. Some years bring a premium. Some years are just metal. Saying “Panda” without a year is like saying “car” without a model.
Early large gold Pandas and some low-mintage years are collector coins. Common silver Pandas often sit closer to world bullion than to American Silver Eagle money.
At a US shop
Known. Not as automatic as an Eagle. Packaging and size matter. If Greysheet or a phone app comes up thin, that is a world-coin problem, not you doing it wrong. Greysheet. World coins.
Bring the year showing. Do not pop it out of a capsule to “make it look better.” Don’t clean. Libertad is the other common world bullion people mix into the same bag.
