Silver certificates still spend as a dollar. That is the sad part.
A silver certificate is historic paper. It is not a claim check for silver anymore. Some notes have collector value. Most are a nice dollar.
The note says silver. The law does not hand you silver for it anymore.

What a shop will do
Look at series, condition, and stars. Bid collector if it is collected. Bid face if it is a tired common $1. Do not iron it. Do not tape it. Paper is worse than coins when you “fix” it. How to read a note.
If you have a shoebox of common $1 silvers, we will look. We will not pretend each one is a bar. Pretty is not a bid. Old is not rare.
