White gold, platinum, and the magnet that ruins a Saturday
White gold is gold with a costume. Platinum is a different metal. Tungsten rings crash the party. Test. Do not guess from color.
A white ring is not automatically platinum.
A lot of it is white gold — yellow gold alloyed and plated to look white. The plate wears. The karat is still the karat. 10k / 14k / 18k. Tests.

Different metal. Different spot. Different test. Some shops are strong at it. Some will bid carefully or send you to a refiner relationship. Platinum and palladium.
Tungsten and ceramic wedding bands
Heavy, cheap, and not precious. Magnets and testers sort them. If you thought dad’s band was platinum and it is tungsten, that is a kitchen-table myth, not a shop conspiracy. Tungsten bars are the same density trick at a larger size.
Bring it. Watch the test. In front of you. Do not file it to death at home.
