Presidential golden dollars: lettered edge, brass, not gold

Presidential dollars (2007–2016) are the same manganese-brass $1 as Sacagawea. About 8.1 g. Lettered edge. Not a Gold Buffalo. Not an Ike.

Presidential golden dollar — brass over copper, not gold

Presidential dollars (2007–2016) show a president, Statue of Liberty on the reverse, and a lettered edge with the date and motto. They are gold-colored, not gold. Same manganese-brass / copper-core spec as a Sacagawea: about 8.1 g, 88.5% copper. Melt is copper plus a little nickel — a few cents. Golden dollars.

Edge

The date is on the edge, not the face. If someone “lost the date,” look at the rim lettering. Missing-edge-lettering pieces exist; they are collector errors, not gold.

What it is not

Live melt: Presidential dollar. Identify: gold-colored vs real gold.
