The Bermuda dollar has been pegged to the US dollar since 1970. Circulating hog 25-cent and longtail dollar coins are about face. Early hogge money is a different, specialist series. Silver commemoratives we weigh.
Bermuda decimalized in 1970. The Bermuda dollar is pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. US paper also spends there. A Bermuda $1 coin is a dollar of money. Circulating pieces still come in as face, or a little over if someone is collecting the hog.
That is the same rule as Bahamas. It is not the Jamaica rule. East Caribbean is 2.70 to 1.
What people bring
The wild hog (a nod to the 1600s hogge money) is on circulating 5¢ and 25¢ pieces people remember. The longtail and ships show up on dollars. Pretty. Common in circulated grades.
Hogge money itself — the early 17th-century Bermuda pieces — is a specialist colonial series. If someone says they have “original hogge money,” that is an attribution visit, not a $1 coin from 1990. Colonial American coins is the neighbor on this shelf.
